Mann Middle students join county Day of Service at Brandon Recreation Center

Students from Mann Middle School took part in a countywide Day of Service at the Brandon Recreation Center.

Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) held the Day of Service. Students worked on service projects at four County locations. Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation worked with HCPS on the projects. Conservation & Environmental Lands Management (CELM) was also a partner. The county release does not describe the work at the Brandon site.

At Lake Park in Lutz, seventh grade students from Lutz Middle School planted 14 trees. They planted 10 bald cypress trees and four holly trees. Lake Park has lost roughly 100 trees over the years, including about 60 cypress trees. Hurricanes, drought conditions and insect infestations caused the losses.

Students from Ben Hill Middle School served at the Northdale Recreation Center. Students from York PreK-8 Innovation Academy took part at the Ruskin Recreation Center.

The county says the partnership connects civics lessons in the classroom with community service.
