Hillsborough County held a free rabies shot and microchip clinic for dogs and cats on Sunday, Oct. 11.
The drive-thru event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until supplies ran out. It took place at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds, 215 Sydney Washer Rd., Dover.
The county offered rabies vaccinations, microchips, tags and registration at no cost. County officials said they had enough supplies for more than 1,000 rabies vaccinations.
Residents and pets stayed in their vehicles. Pets needed a microchip to get the rabies vaccine, unless they already had one. Dogs and cats had to be 3 months or older to get the vaccine. Residents from outside Hillsborough had to complete rabies registration in their home county.
Rabies rule
In Hillsborough County, all dogs and cats 4 months or older must be up to date on rabies vaccinations.
Pet Resource Center
The Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, is the county's only open-admissions shelter. It accepts all dogs and cats regardless of age, breed, size or medical condition. Residents can view adoptable pets at HCFL.gov/Adopt.
